Stephen A. Knudsen, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 21, 2024, in Stevens Point.
Born on April 18, 1956, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Svend and Birgit Knudsen, Steve spent his early years in Manhattan with his sister, Eva, before moving to Queens to live with Jim and Margaret Magowan and their children. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Princeton University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Steve was an academic staff member with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s KEEP Program, where he met his wife, Claire Henriksen-Knudsen. The couple married in 2006, bonding over their shared love for music, the environment, and their Scandinavian heritage.
Steve taught math and science at Wausau Newman Catholic High School before transferring to Pacelli Catholic High School in Stevens Point in 2022. He was known for his dedication to his students, his sense of humor, and his passion for education.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; his stepchildren, Hannah Garcia (Sarwang Parikh), Noah Garcia, and Ome Garcia; his sister, Eva Knudsen; and his Magowan siblings, Jim Magowan (Eleanor), Patricia Magowan Rudikoff (Neal), and R. Daniel Magowan (Kirsten). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a future date.
