State Supreme Court strikes down Evers’ mask mandate

By Patrick Lynn

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday voted 4-3 to strike down Gov. Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate.

Republican lawmakers in October filed a suit arguing that Evers didn’t have the authority to extend the state’s public health emergency past the 60-day mark without approval from the state Legislature.

The Court also struck down Evers’ Safer at Home order last May, ruling that Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm didn’t have the authority to make such an order.

The mask order, which requires people to wear masks or face-coverings in all public, indoor places, was first issued last August. Evers has extended it four times since.
