St. Michael’s Foundation taking scholarship applications

The St. Michael’s Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Applicants are awarded one scholarship, but are allowed to apply for more than one of the available scholarships.
Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship
The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or the surrounding counties), who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field.
The scholarship was organized in 1998 and recognizes Dr. Richard Eckberg , a highly-respected surgeon who served on the St. Michael’s Hospital staff for 22 years.
St. Michael’s Medical Staff Scholarship
The recipient of St. Michael’s Medical Staff Scholarship will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Financial need and children of Ascension Medical Group and Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital associates will be given strong consideration.
The scholarship, established in 2009 by the Medical Staff at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital, awards one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or the surrounding counties) who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a health care field.
Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship
The Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 education scholarship for the 2018- 2019 academic year to an associate of Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital or Ascension Medical Group who will be pursuing a degree in a health care field from an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program.
In 2008, this scholarship was established by Dr. Robert Weaver’s family, created to honor Weaver’s commitment to higher education and providing an opportunity to Ascension Medical Group staff, in recognition of the compassionate and quality care that was provided to him during his life.
The deadline for all three applications is March 5, 2018.
