The Stevens Point Fire Department has reached its 2021 goal of raising $14,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association—but it isn’t closing the book on this year’s total until Aug. 31.

Department members held their annual Fire the Boot campaign on Aug. 12 and 13, taking donations from passing motorists at the Clark St. and Main St. intersections of Division St.

Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Pettis said as of Aug. 25, the department brought in $14,021.80

“We are still accepting donations until the end of the month,” Pettis said.

All the donations go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which funds research for those affected by muscular dystrophy, and helps pay for a special summer camp for kids with the disease.

Donations can be made online at https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/213959.

To send a donation by mail, address it to SPFFCF, Attn: MDA: Fill the Boot, P.O. Box 484, Stevens Point, Wis. 54481.

Since 2007, the SPFD has raised over $135,000 for the cause.
