SPFD now seeking Explorer applicants

The Stevens Point Fire Department will open its application period for Explorer Post 242 on Monday.

The emergency services Explorer Post is open to young adults ages 15-21 and is designed to introduce young people to a possible career in fire and EMS.

The group meets monthly and cadets are expected to attend on a regular basis.

The Explorer program was created by the Boy Scouts of America and continues to operate under the national organization. Meetings involve presentations and hands-on learning activities in firefighting, EMS and other emergency response skills and tactics, and various special activities are held throughout the year.

Application packets can be picked up at the SPFD Headquarters, 1701 Franklin St. starting Monday morning. Applications must be returned to Station No. 1 by 6 p.m on Nov. 30.

Both young men and young women are encouraged to apply but space is limited.
