Special brat fry scheduled to benefit Stevens Point K9 Unit

Metro Wire Staff

The Knights of Columbus are holding a special brat fry to help raise funds for the Stevens Point Police K9 Unit.

The brat fry will be held Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Metro Market (formerly Copps), 1500 Pinecrest Ave. in Stevens Point. Hamburgers and hot dogs will also be available.

The Stevens Point Police Department began its new K9 Unit just over a year ago and still needs funds to meet it’s $50,000 goal. The department paid for the training of two patrol officers, Austin Lee, and J.D. Ballew, and two new dogs, Fala, and Luna, from a kennel in Indiana. To date, the SPPD has raised a little over half of the funds needed.

Lee and Ballew, along with their K9 partners, Fala and Luna, and others from SPPD will be at the event throughout the day. Special K9-related t-shirts, stuffed puppies, and other items will also be up for sale.

The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Stevens Point Assembly 1216 is a nonprofit organization. Donations can also be sent directly to SPPD c/o K9 Unit, 933 Michigan Ave., Stevens Point, Wis., 54481.
