SPASH tops Merrill in conference opener at Bukolt Park

STEVENS POINT – SPASH baseball earned its first Wisconsin Valley Conference win of the season Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Merrill at Bukolt Park.

Merrill scored its lone run in the first inning, but the Panthers answered with a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take the lead. SPASH held Merrill scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Joe Schiszik (1-0) picked up the win for SPASH, allowing one unearned run on six hits over six innings. He walked none and struck out five. Adam Noskowiak closed the game, earning the save with one scoreless inning of relief, striking out two.

Noskowiak also led SPASH at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles.

SPASH improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Panthers travel to Athletic Park in Merrill for a rematch on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
