An internationally recognized orchestra and conductor are coming to SPASH next week.
The Stevens Point Area Senior High will host the St. Olaf Orchestra, led by conductor Steven Amundson, on Monday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the SPASH Auditorium.
The orchestra has been featured at national, regional, and statewide conventions and has toured in Scandinavia, Europe, China, and South America.
Amundson has guided the orchestra to new heights since 1981. He earned several awards and was named Minnesota Orchestra Educator of the year from the Minnesota Music Educators Association. Amundson is the founding conductor of the Metropolitan Symphony, Twin Cities, and served as music director and conductor of the Bloomington Symphony.
Amundson is a commissioned composer and arranger, with works featured in more than 400 performances by orchestras around the world. Amundson has been the WSMA Honors Orchestra conductor in Wisconsin high school and middle-level orchestras several times.

The SPASH Orchestra, directed by Cynthia Kiepert, will hold a side-by-side clinic session with Amundson and the St. Olaf Orchestra earlier in the day, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., on the SPASH stage.
The evening performance will include a St. Olaf junior violinist performing the 3rd Movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and the orchestra will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 1.
