SPASH rolls past Wausau East in regional semifinal

STEVENS POINT — Stevens Point Area Senior High advanced in the WIAA baseball tournament Tuesday with a 10-0 shutout of Wausau East in a regional semifinal at Bukolt Park.
The Panthers broke open a scoreless game in the third inning, plating three runs before adding seven more in the fifth to end the contest after five innings.
Joe Schiszik earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits over five innings while striking out eight and walking one. He improved to 7-1 on the season.
SPASH collected 14 hits in the victory. Braeden Jankowski led the offense, going 3 for 4. Gavin Thiel also finished 3 for 3, including a double, and drove in three runs. Henry Roth added a double.
Wausau East was held scoreless despite recording five hits. The Lumberjacks committed three errors, while SPASH was charged with one.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 22-3 overall and finished the season 14-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, earning the conference championship.
SPASH will host Eau Claire Memorial in a WIAA regional final at 5 p.m. Thursday at Bukolt Park.
