SPASH postpones diploma distribution

Graduating seniors from SPASH will need to wait a little longer to get their diplomas.

The Stevens Point Area Public School District planned to distribute diplomas during a drive-thru event at the school on June 10 and 11. Due to a recent outbreak of COVID-19, that event has been postponed.

“Student and staff safety has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our district,” Superintendent Craig Gerlach said in a statement. “As we continue to monitor the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Portage County, we believe this is the safest decision for our graduates and staff.”

Gerlach said the decision was made after consulting with Portage County Health Officer Gary Garske and would continue to work with the county before deciding on a new date.
