SPASH girls golf opens season with win at Wausau Invite

STEVENS POINT — The SPASH girls golf team opened its season with a strong showing Thursday, taking first and third place among 28 pairings at the Wausau Invite.

The Aug. 13 meet was held at Trapp River Golf Club in Brokaw and included golfers from SPASH, Wausau East/West, Rhinelander, D.C. Everest and Marshfield.

The 18-hole event used two formats, with a two-person best ball for the first nine holes and a two-person scramble for the second nine.

SPASH’s Jenna Barber and Lydia Kort won the event with a combined score of 70.

Teammates Sydney Pfannes and Holly Hammon finished third with a 77.

SPASH had three other pairings compete. Madeline Anderson and Joy Rainbow finished with an 89, while Mae Helgeson and Katelyn Pagel shot a 93. Seraphina Naas and Rae Hulce also finished with a 93.

Head coach Jenessa Reid called it an “outstanding day” for the Panthers and said she was “super proud of the team.”
