WAUSAU – The SPASH girls soccer team suffered a 4-1 defeat on the road Thursday night in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup against Wausau West.

West scored in the eighth minute of play and maintained control for the remainder of the game, handing the Panthers their first conference loss of the season.

“That early goal really put us on our heels and we did not respond with the level of play—both technically and physically—required to compete with a quality side like West,” the SPASH coaching staff said. “West was the better team tonight and deserved the win. We will use this as a learning experience and be a better team as a result.”

Taylor Bushman scored the lone goal for SPASH, and goalkeeper Sophia Smith tallied 11 saves.

The Panthers drop to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the WVC. They return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host Merrill at the UWSP Turf Fields.
