STEVENS POINT — The SPASH boys swim team opened Wisconsin Valley Conference competition Thursday night with a decisive win over Marshfield at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

The defending conference champion Panthers won 10 of 11 events and cruised to a 113-57 victory over the Tigers, last season’s conference runner-up.

Senior Jacob Faust and junior Tony Raczek led the way for SPASH, each winning two individual events. Faust captured the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle, while Raczek took first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

SPASH also picked up individual victories from freshman Eli Gottlieb in the 100 butterfly, senior Henry Bowling in the 500 freestyle and sophomore Karl Eriksson in the 100 breaststroke.

Both teams return to action Saturday at the Santa Invitational at Eau Claire North High School.
