SPASH baseball takes two from La Crosse Central in doubleheader sweep

PLOVER — The SPASH Panthers swept a home doubleheader against La Crosse Central on Friday, winning 4-1 and 5-1 at Memorial Park in Wisconsin Valley Conference play.

In the opener, SPASH trailed 1-0 in the second inning before tying the game in the bottom half. The Panthers broke it open with a three-run fourth inning, taking advantage of a pair of Red Raider errors and timely hitting.

Calvin Roth delivered the biggest blow with a three-run home run, and Koy Karaliunas added a double. Jonathon Trelka went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Gavin Thiel (2-2) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with two hits and one strikeout. Owen Mansavage started and pitched three innings, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Willie Washington and Joe Schiszik each threw a scoreless inning to close out the win, with Schiszik earning the save.

In Game 2, SPASH again found itself down early after La Crosse Central scored in the second inning. The Panthers responded with two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to pull away.

Brayden Marschke went 3-for-3 to lead the offense. Roth and Adam Noskowiak each went 2-for-4, and Grant Jahnke finished 2-for-3.

Trelka (1-1) also contributed on the mound, picking up the win with three shutout innings, striking out five, and allowing two hits. Darren Grabski pitched the final four innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out three.

With the sweep, SPASH improves to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. The Panthers will travel to Marshfield on Tuesday, May 13, for a 5 p.m. matchup at Jack Hackman Field.
