Bukolt Park was filled with Panther baseball fans on Thursday afternoon as SPASH defeated Eau Claire Memorial 5-0 to win the WIAA Division 1 regional title.
The game was tied 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Panthers took control of the game and produced five runs. Mason King started the scoring trend by hitting a single to bring Brett Ehr across the plate.
When SPASH had two outs in the inning, Austin Beyer took advantage of an Eau Claire error to score. Tristian Aldrich then hit a double to right field to bring in an RBI. Justin Morton, Vinnie Fonti, and Brady Franz all brought in RBIs on singles in the inning.
Senior ace pitcher JD Schultz was sharp on the mound going six innings allowing no runs on four hits with an impressive eleven strikeouts. Logan Schulfer closed out the final inning with no hits and two strikeouts.
The Panthers are set to play in the sectional semifinal game against Wisconsin Rapids, who the Panthers defeated twice this season in conference play, on Tuesday at Carson Park in Eau Claire at 10 a.m.
If the SPASH defeats Wisconsin Rapids, they will play for the sectional title later that day at Carson Park against the winner of the Marshfield vs. Eau Claire North game.
