SPASH baseball downs Rapids

By Robert Whitmire

The SPASH baseball team improved its record to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in Wisconsin Valley Conference play with a 7-4 win over visiting Wisconsin Rapids.

Rapids drops to 3-1 in the WVC.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, Brett Ehr scored on an error at the plate to put SPASH up 1-0.

The Panthers upped the lead to the 4-0 off a three-run double to right-center by junior outfielder Tristan Aldrich with one out.

The Raiders put three runs on the board in the fifth inning to pull within two runs at 5-3, then loaded the bases in the sixth but were unable score. Rapids stranded 10 runners on base for the game.

SPASH plated two big runs in the bottom of the seventh put the game out of reach.

“We got timely hitting and pitched out of some jams to secure the win,” said Coach Kraig Terpstra.

Rapids and SPASH meet again on Thursday, April 5 at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
