SPASH announces new cheerleading coach

By Patrick Lynn

On the heels of announcing several new coaches in recent weeks, SPASH this week also announced it had hired a new cheerleading coach for football and basketball.

Coach Maddi Pape brings “a wealth of knowledge and experience” to the cheerleading program, according to the school district. Pape was a member of the Liberty-Benton High School Varsity Basketball and Competition Squads throughout her high school years and has also experience coaching cheerleading for younger athletes.

Pape graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in education and a minor in history. Prior to moving to the Stevens Point Area, she was also a varsity softball coach at Liberty-Benton High School.

“Our school holds a high, respected reputation, and I am prepared to bring up a hardworking squad who reflect SPASH, the student body, and the community with the utmost professionalism, pride, and excellence,” Pape said. “I am ready to bring my enthusiasm, energy, and new ideas to the program.”

David Hauser, the school’s athletic director, said that Pape will bring a lot of passion to the program.

“Maddi is a highly motivated, passionate coach and will expect the same from her teams,” Hauser said.
