A rainy Sept. 10 didn’t stop Skyward from taking the top spot at this year’s VFW golf scramble.

The 17th Annual Plover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10262 Golf Scramble was held at the Wisconsin River Golf Club.

The winning team was awarded an artillery shell-styled traveling trophy in a ceremony at the Post. Team members’ names will be engraved upon the trophy and include Nick Cappotto, Ronald Cisewski, Ben Lind, and Jerry Lind.

The team also received a round of golf for four with carts from Wisconsin River Golf Club and each member received a dozen golf balls.

Twenty-three teams braved challenging weather conditions in the fundraising scramble at Wisconsin River Golf Club, which kicked off at noon with a shotgun start fired from a 105 mm howitzer named “Big Bang Theory,” courtesy of the Wisconsin National Guard Bravo Battery 1/120 unit.

The event also featured special hole challenges, a banquet dinner, and basket raffles afterward at the Post.

Funds raised will be used for local area veteran needs and community support.
