Sixers couldn’t get past Plover’s six-run inning

The Plover Black Sox and Stevens Point Sixers faced off to a packed house at Memorial Park on Wednesday night where Plover claimed an 8-5 victory.
Plover’s Derek Baumgartner hit a double-play fly ball in which Kaden Roberts tagged up from third and scored in the first inning.
Stevens Point answered by tying the game at the top of the second inning when Zach Zimmerman hit a single to right field scoring Nate Helms.
Plovers scoring continued with a six-run third inning when Jack Kelly was hit by a pitch, bringing Kaden Roberts across the plate. Logan Schulfer grounded out allowing another run to score then singles by Cam Stampfl, Mason King, and Micheal Glodosky brought the score to 7-1 in Plovers favor.
In the fifth inning, Sixers’ Justin Morton singled to score Brady Franz to cut the lead by one run.
Plover added one more run with a sacrifice fly from Jack Kelly making the score 8-2 in the sixth.
The Sixers’ were not finished. Stevens Point added three runs in the top of the seventh inning starting with a sacrifice fly by Justin Morton followed by a double by JD Schultz and then a single by Jacob Danielson cutting the deficit to 8-5.
Plover had six players gather one hit each.
Stevens Point’s bats were led by Zach Zimmerman with two hits and Justin Morton with two RBIs
Schulfer took the win on the mound for Plover going five innings allowing two runs.
JD Schultz suffered the loss for Stevens Point going two-and-two-thirds innings.
