By Patrick Lynn

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Concealed Carry Weapons class in October, and space is still available in the class.

The class is taught by sheriff’s deputies who are certified instructors through the Department of Justice.

The class, developed by the DOJ for those wishing to apply for a CCW permit, will be held on Saturday, October 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Portage County Annex, Rooms 1 and 2. Cost is $40 per student.

Instructors will also hold a Basic Handgun Course from 1-4 p.m. at the Portage County Law Enforcement Range in Dewey. That class covers topics like shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading, unloading, malfunctions, and firing. Students will need to bring a firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition for their firearm. Cost is $40 per person.

Students can take both classes for a total fee of $60.

The Annex Building is located at 1462 Strongs Ave. The Dewey shooting range is located at 3001 Willow Springs Dr.
