Sheriff’s office seeks information on road rage incident

Metro Wire Staff

The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on a Nov. 18 semi-tractor/trailer collision to come forward with tips.

Deputies were called to State Hwy. 66, just north of County Hwy. J, in the Town of Sharon at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a semi in a ditch.

According to a news release from the PCSO, the semi was traveling east on Hwy. 66 when it was passed by a motorist in a black Volkswagon sedan, also traveling east. The driver of the Volkswagon pulled in front of the semi and abruptly applied the brakes for no apparent reason.

In order to avoid crashing into the vehicle, the driver of the semi took evasive action, locking its brakes and veering across westbound traffic and into the north ditch of Hwy. 66. Deputies believe the truck did make contact with the Volkswagon, causing damage to the rear of the offending vehicle.

The Volkswagon did not stop and continued east on Hwy. 66. According to Sheriff Mike Lukas, the semi sustained “heavy frontend damage” and had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

This incident is still under investigation.

Anyone with information on the accident, or who can help identify the driver of the suspect vehicle should contact the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at 715.346.1400 or Crime Stoppers on the P3 app or 1-888-346-6600. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
