The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will host a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Class in September.

The class is taught by deputies from the PCSO who are certified firearms instructors and is the actual class developed for the CCW application.

The class will be held on Saturday, Sept, 16 from 8 a.m. to noon in Conference Rooms 1 and 2 at the Portage Co. Annex, 1462 Strongs Ave. The fee for the class is $50 per student.

Instructors will also be offering a basic handgun course from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Portage Co. Law Enforcement Shooting Range, located at 3001 Willow Springs Dr., in the town of Dewey. The class is open to those who attend the morning CCW class.

The class will cover shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading, unloading, malfunctions, and firing. Students will need to bring a firearm and about 50 rounds of ammunition for their firearm.

Students taking both classes will be charged $75 total.
