Sheriff’s office offers conceal carry weapons class

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Class on Saturday, April 29.

The class will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in Conf. Rooms 1 and 2 of the Portage Co. Annex, 1462 Strongs Ave. The class is taught by sheriff’s deputies who are certified firearms instructor through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and is the actual class developed for the CCW permit application.

The cost of the class is $50 per student, or, $75 total for students who also want to take the Basic Handgun Course. The latter will be held at the Portage Co. law enforcement shooting range at 3001 Willow Springs Dr. in Dewey from 1-4 p.m. on the same day.

Topics for handgun course include shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading, unloading, malfunctions, and firing. Students will need to bring a firearm and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition for their firearm.
