Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) has been honored with a Legislative Leadership Award.
The RENEW Wisconsin Energy Fund presented Shankland with the award “in recognition of her outstanding record on renewable energy,” according to a press release from the organization.
RENEW Wisconsin is a nonpartisan, nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to advancing renewable energy in Wisconsin. The Energy Fund is a 501c4 nonprofit organization which can do things that RENEW can’t, such as conducting unlimited educational campaigns on legislative issues affecting renewable energy, engage in unlimited lobbying, spending up to 40 percent of its funds for political efforts, and publicly supporting pro-renewable energy legislative candidates.
Shankland said she was “honored” to receive the recognition.
“I have been advocating for renewable energy initiatives since long before I was elected, and I have introduced clean energy bills every year since I took office,” she said.
Shankland said she had the “phenomenal opportunity” last year to be the first Wisconsin legislator to attend the Clean Energy Legislative Academy, where she learned “from experts and collaborating with Democratic and Republican legislators from across the country.”
“Investing in clean energy creates family-supporting jobs, strengthens the public health, buoys the local economy, and protects our natural resources,” she said. “I look forward to continuing to champion this issue in the Legislature.”
