Sex offender released in Stevens Point

Stevens Point police say a convicted sex offender has been released from prison and is residing on Water St.
Cody J. Patterson, 26, was released from prison on Sept. 8.
Patterson was convicted in Portage Co. of second-degree sexual assault of a child after having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in 2010. Patterson invited the girl and her friend, also 13, to his neighbor’s garage, providing them marijuana and giving her water that possibly contained a “date rape” drug.
In 2012, Patterson had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old acquaintance and had her text nude photos of herself, according to court records. He was convicted in 2015.
While incarcerated in 2014, Patterson mailed sexually explicit information to a minor female and asked her sexual questions and detailed his sexual fantasies about her. Patterson has multiple other criminal convictions including child abuse/intentionally causing harm, and a charge of Sex Offender Using Different Names.
Patterson is residing at 1504 Water St. in Stevens Point, according to the Stevens Point Police Department, and is on supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Patterson will be monitored by probation agents with the Division of Community Corrections in Portage Co., and is also subject to lifetime GPS monitoring.
Patterson is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with minors or contact with his victims. He is also not permitted to consumer drugs and must cooperate with electric monitoring as conditions of his release.
Patterson is also required to have regular face-to-face contact with law enforcement and comply with all requirements and lifetime registrant of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.
“Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community,” the SPPD said in a press release. “Abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders with NOT be tolerated.”
