Sex offender released in Bancroft on Feb. 22

The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office is reporting the pending release of a convicted sex offender.

John T. Taylor Sr., 50, will be released from prison on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Taylor will be living at 374 Akron Ave. in the Town of Pine Grove, a small municipality in the Bancroft area.

Taylor is a white man, 6’1”, 276 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Taylor was convicted of one count of causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity and two counts of incest in December of 2014. He was also convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child in June of 1995. All of the victims in both cases were known to John. He served eight years in prison.

Taylor will be placed on supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) and monitored by Probation Agents with the Division of Community Corrections, in Portage County. He is also subject to GPS monitoring.

Taylor is required to follow a list of conditions upon his release: no unsupervised contact with minors, no contact with his victims, no consumption of illegal drugs, comply with the standard sex offender rules, cooperate with electronic monitoring, have face-to-face contact with law enforcement, comply with all requirements, and be a lifetime registrant of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is releasing this information pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release/residence when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety, protection, and awareness.

Sex offenders have always lived in local communities, but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. Abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated.
