STEVENS POINT — The Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association (WPRA) has named the Seramur Park Revitalization Project the recipient of its Outstanding Park Design Award in the $500,000 to $999,999 category.
The multi-year revitalization project, completed in September 2024, drew significant public participation, including efforts from a Friends of Emerson Park group that spearheaded fundraising and planning.
“The revitalization of Seramur Park represents the very best of what our community can achieve when we come together with a shared vision,” said parks director Dan Kremer. He credited the Friends group, philanthropic donors, the city parks commission, and community partners for helping to transform the former Emerson School property into a vibrant neighborhood park.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of many, and we are proud to see our collective efforts recognized,” Kremer said. “We look forward to the joy this park will bring to residents for years to come.”
Representatives from Stevens Point will accept the award at the WPRA Annual Conference & Trade Show Awards Banquet on Feb. 6 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells.
Mayor Mike Wiza said the park project exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives.
“Stevens Point has one of the best park systems I’ve ever seen, and much of that credit goes to our director and staff, but it’s groups like the Friends and generous donors like the John Seramur family that made this project possible,” Wiza said. “This was the definition of a community project.”
