Self-serve sand barrels return to city neighborhoods

For the Metro Wire

The City of Stevens Point has brought back self-serve sand barrels for residential sidewalk use.

Four barrels are currently placed throughout the city as a way to help residents deal with icy public sidewalks.

Sand barrels are located at Atwell Park, on the corner of Jordon and Lindbergh; Morton Park, on the corner of Michigan and Bush; Mead Park, on the corner of West Clark and West Whitney; and on the corner of Phillips and College.

Sidewalk sand is also available to all city residents free of charge from the city garage, 100 Sixth Avenue. Sand pickup is available Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-7 PM and Saturdays 9 AM-4 PM.

Each resident is limited to two five-gallon buckets, and must provide their own buckets.
