Security Health Plan expands, fills role of chief actuary, CFO

Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., has named Krista Hoglund to the newly expanded role of Chief Actuary & Financial Officer. Hoglund most recently served as Chief Actuary since March 2019.

Hoglund oversees actuarial, underwriting, finance, and accounting functions for Security Health Plan. Her expanded responsibilities include developing and implementing policy, planning and analysis to guide decisions that preserve and improve the health plan’s financial performance.

Security Health Plan CEO Julie Brussow said Hoglund has “a solid track record of outstanding performance and results while guiding our strategic plan through data-driven solutions that improve the health of our members and lower the total cost of care.”

Brussow said Hoglund also will work closely with the financial leadership team at Marshfield Clinic Health System to ensure optimal financial vitality for Security Health Plan and the Health System overall.

“Both actuarial and accounting functions have a financial lens, but at times they can feel like they’re not aligned,” Hoglund said. “I tell our accounting and actuarial teams to look to each other whenever they need help. I see this as a great opportunity to create synergy and cohesiveness so we’re all moving in the same direction from a financial perspective.”

Hoglund is a graduate of UW-Stout with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics. She has been with Security Health Plan since 2008, serving in progressively more responsible roles within Security’s actuarial and business intelligence departments.

“The health care and insurance fields are changing quickly. I’m looking forward to continue helping Security Health Plan innovate and move forward in this dynamic industry,” Hoglund said.
