The Rotary Club of Stevens Point has donated $4,000 to two local charitable organizations.
The community organization hasn’t been able to hold its regular in-person meetings lately, due to COVID, and so the money previously earmarked for funding meeting lunches has been rerouted.
The group spent $4,000 on local gift certificates, which were divided between the Stevens Point Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County.
The two organizations plan to distribute the gift cards to people in need over the next several months, according to a news release from Rotary.
“The Coronvirus pandemic has put many families throughout Portage County in a financial bind,” said Dave Acaley, president of the Rotary. “This is our way of giving back to the Stevens Point Area residents in a time of need.”
