Rosaland “Rose” Marie Katzer, 90
Rosaland “Rose” Marie Katzer, née Woods, of Stevens Point, died peacefully April 18, 2025, at Wellington Place at Whiting. She was 90.
Rose was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Green Bay, the daughter of Glen and Grace Woods. She was raised in Madison and later moved to Milwaukee, where she attended Rufus King High School. In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Gene Katzer, in Dubuque, Iowa. They shared 73 years of marriage.
Rose was a devoted homemaker, raising nine children and offering loving support as her husband’s career led the family from Milwaukee to Stevens Point, to California, and later to Texas. She also worked outside the home in a variety of roles, including at a bakery, in retail, and for many years at the telephone company in both Milwaukee and Stevens Point.
In 1990, the couple created the GR Ranch in Millsap, Texas, where they raised Hereford cattle and sold fruits and vegetables at the Fort Worth farmers market. There, Rose launched “Grandma Rose’s Parker County Produce,” known for its quality and her homemade recipes.
An avid cook and baker, Rose passed on her culinary skills to her children. She also had a lifelong love of music and dance, and wrote poetry for family and self-expression. A lover of nature and animals, she shared her conservation values with her children and grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Rose remained active in the Presbyterian Church and once taught Sunday school at Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church in Stevens Point.
She is survived by her children, Linda Jessen; Pam Clark (Gene); David Katzer (Caroline); Penny Pennick (Rick); Cindy Evans (John); Jean Katzer (Jim Braga); Daniel Katzer (Kathy); Jennifer Herron (Jeff); and Andrew Katzer; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Willard and Max; sisters, Norma and Nina; son-in-law, Carl Jessen; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1300 Main St., in Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with a graveside service following at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
The church service will be livestreamed at facebook.com/share/1FhpNGazyb.
Flowers may be sent to the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a tree in Rose’s memory through the Shuda Funeral Chapel website.
