Spots are still available for conceal carry and basic handgun classes offered by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, but they are expected to sell out.
Two sessions will be held, in May and October.
The Conceal Carry Weapons (CCW) class will be held in Rooms 1 and 2 at the Portage Co. Annex, 1462 Strongs Ave., May 4 and Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. until noon. The class was developed by the Wisconsin Dept. of Justice and will be taught by local deputies who are DOJ certified instructors.
The class is $40 per person.
A Basic Handgun Course will follow each class, held from 1-4 p.m. at the Portage Co. Law Enforcement Range in Dewey. The class will cover proper shooting stance, loading/unloading, and weapons malfunction. Students in this class will need to bring a firearm and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition. The cost of this class is also $40.
Both classes are available for a fee of $60.
