Richard (Rick) Lee Muzzy, 77

Richard (Rick) Lee Muzzy, 77, died peacefully at his home on Sept. 24, 2025.

Rick was born Nov. 17, 1947, in Canton, Ohio. His parents were James V. and Betty (née Biddle) Muzzy. He is survived by his wife, Eva; brothers, Jim Muzzy (Judith) and Robb Muzzy (Joy); and sister, Barbara Reinker (Jeffery); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Rick graduated from Kent State University with a degree in journalism and broadcasting. On June 19, 1971, he married the forever love of his life, Eva.

Shortly after college graduation, Rick followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career in broadcasting. His profession allowed him to live across the United States, working in markets in Elyria-Lorain, Piqua, Toledo, Ohio, as well as Boston, Massachusetts, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In 1988, Rick realized his dream of becoming the owner of a local radio broadcasting company when he and Eva purchased radio stations in Eau Claire and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been his home ever since.

Rick was a member and president of the Ohio Sportscasters Association and the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. He was active in the local Chamber of Commerce and a member of Corvettes of the North. At the Stevens Point Country Club, he could frequently be found on the driving range hitting balls and greeting players, which earned him the nickname “Ranger Rick.”

Rick was a proud local broadcaster and could be heard on his morning show on WSPT-FM in Central Wisconsin. He provided the community with a fun, family-oriented show of great music, good stories, local news and events. He loved working with his broadcast team and interacting with his listeners. His stations are some of the very few locally owned radio stations in Wisconsin, and he devoted his stations to serving Central Wisconsin.

Rick also owned Muzzy Concerts, bringing shows and live music events to the area. His interests included music, cars, and golf. He was always willing to “take a walk in the short grass.” He had three holes-in-one.

Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home, 1649 Briggs Street, Stevens Point, from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025. The service will be available on Facebook by accessing 979wspt. Rick will be buried in Canton, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Muzzy Family Fund at the Central Wisconsin Community Foundation, 2801 Hoover Road, Unit 1B, Stevens Point, Wis. 54481. These gifts will continue to support Rick’s and Eva’s commitment to the community, the industry, and youth.
