Rep. Vincent Miresse Sworn into his role at Wisconsin State Assembly
By Patrick Lynn
MADISON — Rep. Vincent Miresse, D-Stevens Point, was sworn in Tuesday at the State Capitol, officially becoming the state representative for Wisconsin’s 71st Assembly District.
Miresse was elected in November, beating opponent Bob Pahmeier by a final vote of 18,598 to 16,280. Miresse replaces longtime Rep. Katrina Shankland, who did not survive the August primary.
Miresse will serve on the environment, forestry, parks and outdoor recreation, and sporting heritage committees during the 2025-2026 legislative session.
In a statement released after the ceremony, Miresse expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the people of Central Wisconsin, calling it “an honor and privilege.”
“Every session is an opportunity to address the pressing issues facing Wisconsinites, and this session is a particular bright spot with greater representation in the Assembly,” Miresse said. “It is a new day in Wisconsin! The people have spoken, and we have heard their demand for balanced government in Madison.”
Miresse said he intends to focus on advancing policies that benefit Wisconsin residents, despite what he described as reduced representation on legislative committees.
“Even though the Speaker has diminished our representation on committees, our voices will still be heard. We will promote a visionary, inclusive policy agenda, continue to work alongside our neighbors, and do everything we can to advance policy that allows the people of Wisconsin to thrive,” he said.
Miresse concluded his remarks by reaffirming his commitment to serving the district.
“Now it’s time to get to work,” he said.
The 71st Assembly District includes Stevens Point and surrounding communities.
