STEVENS POINT – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s student-run radio station WWSP 90FM will host its 55th annual 54-hour trivia contest, “Trivia 55: NO LIMIT,” from April 11-13.

Since 1970, the event has been broadcast from WWSP 90FM’s headquarters at the Communication Arts Center, 1101 Reserve St. in Stevens Point. Teams must register in person at the station from April 8-11 between 3-7 p.m. or on April 12 between noon-6 p.m. Registration costs $40 per team, with proceeds supporting the station’s operations and scholarships for student volunteers and staff. Out-of-town teams can find registration details online at 90fmtrivia.org.

“This year’s theme is a look back at how the past envisioned the future,” said Dave Coulthurst, 90FM trivia coordinator. “This retro-future theme showcases stunning visuals that make you wish the future imagined by the past were possible.”

Festivities begin with a trivia kickoff movie at 10 p.m. on April 4-5 at Rogers Cinema, 2725 Church St. in Stevens Point. Admission is $3, with doors opening at 9:30 p.m. A parade of teams will take place at 4 p.m. April 11, starting on Maria Drive north of campus. The contest officially begins at 6 p.m. that evening and runs until midnight April 13.

Teams will compete by answering eight trivia questions per hour, with two songs’ worth of time to call in their responses. Additional challenges include ongoing questions that require participants to search the community for answers, music montage quizzes, and scavenger hunt-style tasks. The top teams will earn trophies and bragging rights.

WWSP 90FM is one of the largest student-run radio stations in the Midwest and was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association as one of the state’s top student broadcasting organizations.
