Recommendation pending for new city clerk

Mayor Mike Wiza has recommended the city council approve Karlyn Krautkramer as interim city clerk.

Wiza reportedly made the recommendation with the unanimous approval of an interview team consisting of himself, Human Resources Manager Lisa Jakusz, City Treasurer Corey Ladick, and Alderman David Shorr (District 2), who chairs the personnel committee.

Applications for the position, which is being vacated by Clerk Paul Piotrowski at the end of the month, were due Jan. 13. It was not immediately clear how many other candidates applied for the role.

Piotrowski said he plans to run for another office but will not elaborate until he leaves the clerk’s office.

Krautkramer has been an administrative assistant to the business director in the Stevens Point Area Public School District for 16 years. She previously ran for city clerk in 2013 but lost to John Moe.

In her current role, Krautkramer has already been responsible for overseeing numerous school board election cycles, posting legal notices, and budget management.

Prior to her work in the school district, she owned and operated Temptations of the Hearth, which had a staff of seven.

“I’m looking to do the job, do it well, no drama,” Krautkramer said on Wednesday.

If approved by the city council on Jan. 20, Krautkramer will serve through April 30, 2021. The council meets at 7 p.m. in the Branch II courtroom of the Portage Co. Courthouse, 1516 Church St. The public is welcome to attend.
