Randy R. Frost Jr., 42

Randy R. Frost Jr., 42, of Plover, died peacefully April 24, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by family.

Randy was born Dec. 21, 1982, in New Mexico to Randy R. Frost Sr. and Betty (née Messing) Frost.

Although he spent most of his life in Wisconsin, Randy proudly called New Mexico home, where he was born and spent countless cherished summers with his grandfather, James Frost. Those days under the vast southwestern sky helped shape the deep bond they shared and planted the seeds of Randy’s lifelong love for animals, wide-open spaces, and the cowboy way of life.

He grew up surrounded by horses and the spirited rhythm of rodeo life. From his early days competing in Little Britches Rodeo and High School Rodeo to the Wisconsin Central Rodeo Association, Randy was a talented heeler who thrived in calf and team roping events. He later brought that same dedication to the arena as a rodeo judge.

Outside the ring, Randy had a quieter passion: books. He was often found with one in hand, especially if it was about history. He admired those who served their country—particularly his brother, James—and although he was unable to serve himself after surviving cancer as a baby, his respect for veterans was unwavering.

Family meant everything to him. He shared a special bond with his younger brother, James, whom he admired deeply, and found great joy in being an uncle to Sawyer, Rohan (his beloved godson) and Grady.

Randy was a man of few words but great heart. He had a generous spirit, quick wit and a knack for making others laugh. Whether it was a well-timed prank, a goofy story, or a subtle act of kindness, Randy left his mark in small, meaningful ways.

He loved a good game of cards—Euchre was his favorite—and he delighted in teaching anyone willing to learn. Fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends brought him peace, and he never turned down the chance for a good story or a hearty laugh.

A 2001 graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School, Randy earned his Fire 1 certificate from Mid-State Technical College and proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Whiting and later the town of Stockton. Professionally, he worked in the auto service and sales industry at Shierl Tire, Premier Autobody, and most recently at NAPA Auto Parts.

In 2014, Randy married Lynn (née Bergman) Frost. Though their marriage ended in early 2025, they remained close friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; his grandparents, Raymond and Bertha (née unknown) Messing and James Frost; his father-in-law, Walter Bergman; and his aunt and uncle, Judy (née unknown) Booms and George Messing.

Survivors include his father, Randy (Teri) Frost Sr. of Munith, Michigan; his brother, James (Sara) Frost of Stevens Point; three beloved nephews, Sawyer, Rohan and Grady; his grandmother, Joyce (née Boltz) of Chelsea, Michigan; his best friend of 25 years, Ronald Wille of Junction City; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his loyal yellow labs, Allie and Stella.

A celebration of life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Backwoods Bar and Grill.

The family wishes to thank all who showed Randy kindness and compassion during his battle with alcoholism. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Randy’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched with his humor, humility and big-hearted spirit. He will be remembered as a cowboy, a caretaker, a brother, an uncle, a friend—and above all, a man who loved deeply and lived authentically.
