Q Gallery to host event on ‘World Environment Day’

Metro Wire Staff

Artist Dan Sivek and author Patty Dreier will host a book signing and short event at Gallery Q on World Environment Day, Saturday, June 3.

The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The duo will share how they “harmonized art and literature to empower young people to act for the environment,” according to a news release from the Gallery. Visitors can expect soft pastels, the medium Sivek used for his painting, “Empowered,” and Dreir will share a song or two from her book and sign copies.

Visitors can also view the original pastel painting created by Sivek for Dreier’s book, also titled “Empowered,” and additional art by Sivek and other Gallery Q artists. Dreier’s book will be available to peruse.

Free drawings will be held for autographed copies of the book, and notecards featuring the Empowered painting. Visitors can also sample homemade earth cookies and coffee.

Sivek and Dreier hold degrees in environmental education (Ph.D. and M.S., respectively). Both have taught environmental education and trained teachers/aspiring teachers and future conservationists. They pooled their creative talents in the book, “Empowered: One Planet at a Time.”

The book is now used at UW-Stevens Point and other programs across the planet to “equip the next generation of students to stand up for their planet and themselves.”

Gallery Q is run by a cooperative of local artists, accepted through a juried process. The gallery is located at 1108 Main St. in downtown Stevens Point. Gallery hours are posted at qartistscooperative.com. The gallery is own to the public.
