Public school board to fill vacancy by appointment

By Patrick Lynn

The Stevens Point Area Public School Board decided unanimously on Monday to take applications to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Patricia Baker.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 27. The board will interview candidates and choose an appointee during a special board meeting on Feb. 1.

The appointee will be sworn in during a regular board meeting on Feb. 8 to serve one of the two years left in Baker’s term. The seat will be up for re-election in 2022.

Applicants will need to complete a two-page application declaring their candidacy and explaining why they are interested in the position.

Baker resigned at the end of December to fill a judicial appointment in Portage Co. Circuit Court.
