Public Comment Period For Proposed PFAS Drinking Water Standards, Technical Corrections And Consumer Confidence Report Requirements In NR 809
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) developed two draft rule packages to revise ch. NR 809, Wis. Adm. Code.
- Board Order DG-01-24, related to drinking water standards for PFAS and affecting small businesses. These standards are referred to as Maximum Contaminant Levels or MCLs.
- Board Order DG-02-24, to clarify and correct existing language and add federal Consumer Confidence Report requirements.
The DNR is holding a public comment period and virtual public hearing to solicit additional information or advice on the proposed rules.
The proposed rule changes are designed to protect the public from threats to public health, welfare and safety caused by consuming drinking water contaminated with certain PFAS. They ensure state regulations are consistent with federal regulations, including updates to Consumer Confidence Report requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
A draft of the proposed rule language is available for download under DG-01-24 and DG-02-24 on the DNR’s Proposed Permanent Administrative Rules webpage.
The DNR is accepting comments on the draft revisions to ch. NR 809 from Sept. 8 to Oct. 8, 2025. Comments may be submitted electronically to Constantine.Tsoris@wisconsin.
