Public asked to avoid Fox Theater area beginning Friday

By Patrick Lynn

Urban Evolution, Inc. will begin deconstruction the Fox Theater building on Friday, kicking off a four-to-six-week process of tearing down the structure’s back two-thirds.

City leaders are referring to the project as a “deconstruction” rather than a demolition, as current plans are to remove the theater portion of the building, leaving the historic façade, front entry and second-story ballroom to the foreseeable future.

After the project is complete, the removed section will be graded and reseeded next spring.

Access to the rear of the building via Strongs Ave. near Shopko will be off-limits to the public. The area will be roped off and marked.

Additional police patrols through the area will help ensure safety, according to a news release from the city.
