STEVENS POINT — Prevail Bank professionals spent part of April in local classrooms, combining storytime with financial literacy to mark National Teach Children to Save Day.

As part of the Wisconsin Bankers Foundation’s Reading Raises Interest program, seven Prevail Bank employees visited area schools and taught nearly 234 children basic money management skills. In coordination with classroom teachers, the bankers led saving-related activities and read from Rock, Brock, and the Savings Shock by Sheila Bair.

The story centers on twin brothers with different saving habits and a grandfather who incentivizes wise money management by matching every dollar the boys save. The book’s lesson served as a launching point for broader discussions about the importance of setting money aside at an early age.

The effort reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to improving financial literacy in the communities it serves.

“Uninformed financial decisions and poor career planning can result in lifelong consequences,” the bank said in a statement. “Teaching kids how to save at a young age helps deter that outcome.”

Among those participating was Abi Mlsna, marketing coordinator for Prevail Bank, who visited Ms. Long’s first-grade classroom at Bannach Elementary in Stevens Point.

The annual initiative aims to empower the next generation with smart saving habits and greater financial awareness.
