POTD: That’s a big hole

Crews from the Stevens Point Utility Department fixed a water main on Wednesday, with temperatures warming into the double digits.

Water St. was closed between Williams St. and Whiting Ave. to everyone except emergency vehicles for most of the day of Feb. 17 after the city was notified about a water main leak.

The pipe leaked onto the Water St. roadway, creating an ice slick down to Whiting Ave. Workers used a backhoe to dig down about 12 feet before finding the pipe.

Crews blocked off the roadway and spread sand along the ice. The road reopened before the end of the business day.
