POTD: One hot real estate market

Metro Wire Staff

Metro fire crews responded to Hwy. 10 East on Wednesday after a fire was reported in the offices of First Weber Realtors.

Firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover, and Hull, were called to the real estate office, 5242 Hwy. 10 East, at 1:27 p.m. when a caller reported a fire in the ceiling fan of the ladies restroom. An employee extinguished the flames by the time Stevens Point police arrived, but firefighters continued their response, believing the fire may have gone into the ceiling.

Plover and Hull units were eventually dismissed from the call, and Stevens Point firefighters determined the call wasn’t that serious. A Metro Fire response is automatic when smoke or flames is reported.

Employees of the real estate office, and the neighboring Point Title office, evacuated safely.

Stevens Point Fire Chief Robert Finn said there were no injuries. Damage was limited to the ceiling fan, he said, but the incident is still under investigation.
