Portage County Sheriff’s Office to offer concealed carry, handgun courses

STEVENS POINT – The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will host a concealed carry weapons (CCW) class on April 26 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Portage County Annex.
The class, led by sheriff’s deputies certified as Department of Justice firearm instructors, meets state requirements for the CCW permit application. The cost is $50 per student.
A basic handgun course will also be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Portage County Law Enforcement Range, 3001 Willow Springs Drive in the town of Dewey. This course is available to those who attend the CCW class and covers topics including shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading and unloading, malfunctions, and firing. Students must bring a firearm and about 50 rounds of ammunition.
The cost for both courses is $75 per student.
