Portage County announces fall 2024 drug take back events

PORTAGE COUNTY – Residents of Portage Co. will have multiple opportunities this fall to safely dispose of unwanted, expired, or unused medications during the county’s annual Prescription Drug Take Back events.

Sponsored by the Portage Co. Partnership for Prevention, the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, the Stevens Point Police Department, the Plover Police Department, and the Jensen Center, the upcoming events provide an accessible way to properly discard various medications, helping to reduce the risk of misuse.

The following events are scheduled:

  • Monday, Oct. 21
    Rosholt Village Hall, Rosholt
    11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 23
    Jensen Center, Amherst
    11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 24
    Village Park Lodge, Junction City
    11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 26
    Lincoln Center, Stevens Point
    8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    Almond Community Center, Almond
    1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring prescription and over-the-counter medications in their original containers, with patient information removed. Accepted items include pills, syrups, salves, creams, capsules, inhalers, oxygen tanks, nebulizers, sharps, radioactive cancer medication, and animal medications and supplements.

Medications can also be dropped off at designated disposal boxes without an appointment at the following locations:

  • Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, 1500 Strongs Ave., Stevens Point (available 24/7)
  • Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave., Stevens Point (available during business hours)
  • Plover Police Department, 2420 Post Rd., Plover (available during business hours)
