Portage Co. library system to host gingerbread house decorating events

STEVENS POINT — The Portage County Public Library is inviting children and their caregivers to create edible gingerbread houses at upcoming events across its four branches.

The festive programs, designed for children aged 2 through fifth grade, begin on Dec. 12 at the Almond Branch and continue through Dec. 19. Each event will provide basic instructions and all necessary supplies, including graham crackers, frosting made with egg whites, and a variety of edible decorations like pretzels and marshmallows.

The events allow families to express their culinary creativity, create warm memories, and maybe leave with sticky fingers.

Participation is free, but supplies are limited, and registration is required. Each registered child will be able to decorate one house. Registration opens on Dec. 3, and caregivers can contact their home branch to sign up.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Dec. 12 at 4 p.m., Almond Branch (122 Main St., Almond; 715-366-2151)
  • Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Stevens Point Branch (1001 Main St., Stevens Point; 715-346-1549)
  • Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Rosholt Branch (137 N. Main St., Rosholt; 715-677-4512)
  • Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Plover Branch (2151 Roosevelt Dr., Plover; 715-341-4007)

For more information or to register, visit www.pocolibrary.org/events or contact the branches directly.
