Portage Co. libraries turn to the 1980s for adult winter reading challenge

Metro Wire Staff

The Portage County Public Library is hosting its 8th annual Adult Winter Reading Challenge, which begins on Jan. 11.

This year’s theme is “1980s edition” and runs through Feb. 28. The challenge features themes from the decade of big hair, banana bikes, and glam rock.

The library system will use the online platform Beanstack, which allows participants to earn badges while discovering, or rediscovering, titles from the 1980s. For each badge earned participants will receive an entry into prize drawings for gift cards from Arbuckles Eatery & Pub, Bill’s Pizza Shop, The Coffee Studio, Companion Shop, Kindred Spirit Books, The Wellness Spa, and Wooden Chair.

All prizes were purchased by the Portage Co. Public Library Foundation, according to library director Larry Oathout.

Participants can register by visiting pocolibrary.beanstack.org or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app.

More details can be found at pocolibrary.org or by contacting the reference department at 715.346.1548.
