Police steak feed fundraiser returns to Backwoods

By Brandi Makuski

For a third consecutive year, Stevens Point police are preparing for their annual steak feed.

The police officers’ union, Stevens Point Police Officers Organization (SPPOO), is more than just a labor union. It’s also the charitable arm of the SPPD and Sgt. Ryan Roser said it raises money for the Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Wisconsin Special Olympics, and more. A portion of the funds is also made available for officers’ families who are undergoing hardships.

“Just like with our walleye tournament, it helps us raise money meant for community projects,” Roser said.

The steak feed was added to the union’s docket in 2021 because COVID-19 put a damper on some of the organization’s usual fundraising activities, like its Run From the Cops 5K.

The event will include a dee-jay, with basket and cash raffles.

The dinner will be 3-8 p.m. at Backwoods Bar and Grill, 1511 North Second Dr., on Saturday, Oct. 7. Ticket holders will be served a 12-14 oz. ribeye, cooked to order by Stevens Point police. Families are welcome.

Only 450 tickets are available, Roser said. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the SPPD, 933 Michigan Ave., at Backwoods, or at Airport Bar, 4 Park Ridge Dr.
