Police & Sheriff calls, June 27-28

June 27

Rollover: Deputies were called to Hwy. 10 at mile marker 213 in Stevens Point at 5:39 a.m. when a caller reported a rollover crash. There was a single occupant, a 44-year-old man, who was uninjured.

Bike thief: Police were called to the 200 block of Wilshire Blvd. North at 8:26 a.m. when a 20-year-old woman reported someone cut her bike lock and stole her white Cannondale bicycle.

Hit & run: Deputies were called to the 300 block of Wilson St. in Amherst at 9:31 a.m. when an 80-year-old woman reported an unknown motorist had struck her vehicle as it was parked outside of her home.

Busted: Deputies cited a 38-year-old man at 10:18 a.m. for failing to slow down for highway maintenance crews at Hwy. 54 and Hwy. K in Amherst.

Car v deer: A 32-year-old woman called deputies to Hwy. 10 and Buchholz Rd. in Amherst at 12:12 p.m. to report she’d struck a deer with her vehicle, and that her vehicle was not driveable. No human injuries were reported.

Suspended: Police cited a 23-year-old man for operating while suspended near Michigan Ave. and Jefferson St. at 12:47 p.m. The man was also issued written warnings for expired registration and no proof of insurance.

Crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Dixon St. and Michigan Ave. at 1:54 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Crash: Police were called to Fleet Farm, 5590 Hwy. 10 East, when a caller reported a two-vehicle collision in the parking lot at 2:11 p.m. One motorist reportedly struck a pole, and the pole struck the other vehicle. No further details were released.

Fraud: A 22-year-old woman came to the SPPD at 2:48 p.m. to report having received traffic citations from “all over the United States” with her personal information on them.

Fireworks: A 36-year-old man called police to the 300 block of Soo Marie Ave. at 8:59 p.m. to report “three loud booms” and additional fireworks noises.

Party: Police were called to the 2100 block of Texas Ave. at 9:54 p.m. when a caller complained about a “large, loud party” in the apartment building. No further details were released.

Car v Deer: Deputies responded when a 20-year-old man struck a deer with his vehicle at County Hwy. BB and Hwy. 54 in Plover at 10:31 p.m.The man’s vehicle was towed, and no human injuries were reported.

Kids: Deputies were called to the 5400 block of County Hwy. W in Bancroft when a caller reported children setting off fireworks at 10:17 p.m.

Drunk: Police were called to the YMCA, 1000 Division St., at 10:58 p.m. when someone reported a man “passed out in front of the YMCA sign” along Division St. Officers work the man, age 47, who agreed to a breathalyzer. He blew a .176 but was cooperative and appeared able to take care of himself.

June 28

Stargazers: Deputies stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle near County Hwy. W and County Hwy. F South at 3:13 a.m. The occupants said they were “checking out the stars.”

Duck crossing: Deputies were called to Hwy. 10 at mile marker 230 at 6:36 a.m. when a caller reported a mama duck and her ducklings were attempting to cross the road. Responding officers were unable to locate the ducks upon arrival.

False alarm: Police and firefighters responded to St. Michael’s Hospital, 900 Illinois Ave., at 7:37 a.m., when a fire alarm activated. Upon arrival, officers learned that the alarm was accidentally activated due to an electrical problem.
